Lockdowns and Winners
It happened!
After all the planning and high hopes, the 2021 Omega Writers Book Fair (Brisbane) went ahead even as the announcement of a lockdown for South-East Queensland became live in media res.
This year we had a smaller number of author tables - with sixteen authors with works ranging for memoirs, biography, devotional theology, diversity and difference, to works of fantasy, science fiction, historical romance and crime fiction (written by a paramedic). We were thrilled to welcome new faces, like Harry Colfer, Cathryn Lloyd, Lilly J. Faith, Rebekah Robinson, Marion Kilchester, George Johnston, and to welcome old hands, such as Ruth Bonetti, David Bennett, Hazel Barker, Anne Hamilton, Rhonda Valentine Dixon, Sally Eberhardt, Lynne Stringer, Naomi Eccles-Smith, Jeanette O'Hagan and Nola Lorraine.
And while we needed to bring things forward to finish earlier due to the looming lockdown and many who had been planning to attend did not venture out, the day was still an inspiration and encouragement for those who attended.
